Deep Ecology &
Dharma Retreat

Date: May 5 - May 7, 2023

Heart Connection, Earth Connection

In this retreat we will hold space for our grief for the world in the face of current social and ecological crises, whilst also celebrating our love and desire to care for each other and the Earth. We will explore our ecological identities through nature-based practices, and draw on the power of meditation to transform anxiety and despair into connection, inspiration and collaborative action for healing our hearts and the Earth. This will help us step back into our lives with more power and clarity. The retreat draws on the philosophies and practices of Joanna Macy's Work that Reconnects, deep ecology, engaged Buddhism and wilderness connection work.

Facilitator

OLIVIA BERNARDINI is a deep ecology facilitator, environmental educator, yoga teacher, counsellor and nature lover. She has worked in her community in the fields of sustainability, education, community development and multiculturalism for the past 20 years.

EMMA PITTAWAY trained with Joanna Macy in 2005 and has been running deep ecology workshops since 2006. She teaches Buddhist meditation and has drawn much strength from it for her engagement in climate activism, refugee advocacy and community building. She loves nothing more than to wander in wild places.

Flourish Sanctuary exists primarily to serve the people of our community. To date, we have proudly not taken any government grants or corporate money and are totally independently funded. Everybody who works on the property is an unpaid volunteer apart from our cleaner, but they do get to live on this sacred land. Black Sheep Farm and Compassion Temple are operated by volunteers of Flourish Sanctuary. Our purpose is people, not profits. If you can make a donation to support our purpose then please click here.

We believe this world is for everyone regardless of spiritual beliefs, gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnicity or species. We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we gather, the Bundjalung people, and pay our respects to their Elders past, present, and emerging. We recognise their continuing connection to land, water, and community, and we support their ongoing efforts towards self-determination and sovereignty.
