Friday May 19 from 7 pm
Shunya & friends are delighted to offer a kirtan at The Flourish Sanctuary for Nimbin Aquarius 50. A terrific six piece band will transform the sombre healing energy of the Day of the Dead into an evening of rebirth, light and love.
In the grand rainbow arc that is contemporary devotional music Shunya is located more towards the pop end of things .. original mantras and affirmation songs in sanskrit and English. He and the backing musicians create a container where the overwhelm of modern life is left outside, the focus instead being on presence, connection and the five elements that sustain life on this fragile planet. All with a healthy dash of spontaneous humour between songs. Tonight’s line up; Shunya (guitar/vocals), DanaLee Mynard (harmonium), Anand Rahasya (djembe), Chandika (flute), Caroline Cowley (backing vocals) and Tanu Rajani (backing vocals) Entry is by suggested donation of $15, but please just give what you can afford. Based in the Northern Rivers, Shunya provided the sound for many years at Mullumbimby’s legendary House of Bliss gatherings, before feeling the call to pick up a guitar, throw caution to the wind and take his unique voice on a troubadour mission.
